“Wadowice absorbed in a book”

Wadowice Public Library (1 Legionów Street) for the umpteenth time invites to a common National Reading! This time on 8th of September 2018 (Saturday) at 10 a.m. there will be read fragments
of “Przedwiośnie” (“Spring to Come”) and others texts about independence.

National Reading is a Polish nationwide social project started by a president of the Republic of Poland – Bronisław Komorowski in 2012 with common reading of “Pan Tadeusz” (“Sir Thaddeus”).
Its purpose is popularization of reading and empowerment a sense of national identity by common reading of the greatest books from polish literature.

In this year “National Reading” will have completely new formula because of very special century anniversary when Poland regaining its independence. Because of it in this year there will be reading not only “Przedwiośnie” (“Spring to Come”) but also 44 texts accumulate in an Independence Anthology. The Anthology includes works created over the centuries, included in the canon of Polish patriotic literature, which can be an inspiration for making debates about the affairs
of the Homeland.  In turn, “Przedwiośnie” (“Spring to come”) is the last novel by Stefan Żeromski. The writer made a balance of the first years of Polish independence in it paying attention
to enthusiasm, willingness to rebuild the state but also mistakes and omissions.

All those willing to listen to this important reading for Poles and selected texts from
the Independence Anthology are invited on Saturday morning to the Wadowice Public Library where a group of fried and sympathizers of the city book will read selected fragments of works. This year, the Historical Reconstruction Group of the 56th Infantry Regiment from Wadowice will also join
to the common reading!

In addition, a sweet snack in the form of a “patriotic” cake is provided for all participants
of the event.
