Vincent van Gogh's painting at the Family Home of Pope John Paul II
The Museum of the Family Home of the Holy Father John Paul II in Wadowice invites you to an extraordinary exhibition entitled “...in Him all things are beautiful - around the painting Rural Cottages among the Trees by Vincent van Gogh”, which will be open to the public from May 21, 2025.
The centerpiece of the exhibition will be the presentation of the work “Rural Cottages Among the Trees” by Vincent van Gogh - the only painting by this artist in Polish collections. The painting by Vincent van Gogh was painted in 1883 in Nuenen, the Netherlands. It is on deposit at the Museum of John Paul II and Primate Wyszynski in Warsaw. The exhibition in Wadowice is a unique opportunity to personally interact with the work of one of the most outstanding painters in the history of art, in a space saturated with spirituality and reflection on the beauty of the world.
This unique event combines art of the highest order with the profound message present in the teaching of John Paul II. The title of the exhibition alludes to the pope's words, creating a context for reflection on beauty both in art and in everyday life. The exhibition also allows us to discover the great attachment of the author of the work to his native land, with its characteristic landscape - created by light and specific colors: browns, greens and purples. In his letters, van Gogh repeatedly returned to his childhood wanderings with his father, which allowed him to delight in his native landscape, his homeland. For the artist, this strong attachment also meant discovering his own roots and identity. He always considered this reality in the perspective of his relationship with God.
With the exhibition of Vincent van Gogh's “Village Cottages Among the Trees,” the papal museum is inaugurating a series of one-picture exhibitions - works that feature biblical themes.
Visitors to the Wadowice museum will be able to see Vincent van Gogh's painting until the end of October 2025.
